I teach students of all ages, from varied musical backgrounds. I firmly believe that good classical technique is foundational to good singing, regardless of what style of music a student desires to sing. I therefore teach beginners from a classical, bel-canto style, emphasizing correct breathing, pure vowels, and musicianship. ______________________________________________________
Curriculum Overview:
I teach both 1/2 hour and 1 hour lessons, depending upon each individual's needs and wants. Students can expect to learn more than just singing. I believe that good singing starts with good musicianship, and that the voice is the instrument that the singer learns to develop while growing into a good musician. We develop repertiore as well as technique. We learn theory, train the ear, and understand the history behind what we do, because all these things help develop a person into a musician. ______________________________________________________
Tuition and costs:
Lessons are paid on a monthly basis, unless otherwise agreed in advance. Other required expenses include lesson books, which students can purchase through me or on their own. Optional items include accompaniment and ear training CDs, as well as incidentals such as cassette tapes or blank CDs for recording lessons. We record all lessons for the benefit of the student and students are welcome to bring MP3 recorders or removable drives in place of blank CD's or cassettes to record their lessons.
